About Us

Our Company

First heard on the air in 1949, the stations that form the WJMA family are owned by Piedmont Communications, Inc., a locally owned and operated broadcasting company serving the communities in and around Culpeper, Orange, and Louisa, Virginia. The company began with the purchase of WJMA AM and FM in Orange in early 1993, and has grown to its current operation of four radio stations in three communities of license. WJMA FM, along with sister station WCVA AM, is licensed by the FCC to serve the Culpeper area.  This area includes listeners up and down the Rt. 29 corridor from Charlottesville to Warrenton, and east to Spotsylvania, Louisa, and Fredericksburg. Large enough to provide the localities we serve with top notch programming, the company is still small enough to recognize the importance of localism and community service. In 2008 alone, Piedmont Communications, Inc. gave back to the community through direct charitable cash donations and over one hundred thousand dollars of in kind public service announcements and appearances.  In order to improve the quality of the signal you receive in your radio and to provide for future diversity and choice in programming, we have invested in new state of the art HD transmitting equipment. In fact, WJMA FM was the first Virginia non-metro commercial radio station to begin broadcasting its primary signal in HD.

Our primary goals remain to provide the best, most in demand entertainment possible, plus features and news of local importance, emergency and weather related warnings, and local public service information, while continuing to deliver measureable, accountable business solutions to our commercial customers.  We're not interested in being the biggest, just the best for Central Virginia.
